Tennessee child unintentionally shot in the head at a home

A child and his friend were at a home in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and handled an unsecured, loaded firearm.

One child pulled the trigger and hit the other in the back of the head.

Luckily, it appears the child may survive.

From an article:
Investigators tell Channel 3 that upon their arrival they found a child suffering from a significant bullet wound to the back of the head.
It was reported to police that the juvenile was with a friend and the two were handling a loaded firearm when the friend pulled the trigger of a small caliber revolver and accidentally struck the victim in the back of the head.
Investigators say the child was conscious and talking to officers and was brought to the hospital by his mother and is currently being treated for the injury that is believed to be non-life threatening
Investigators did recover the weapon. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
The article doesn't say how the children got hold of the gun.

Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.

  1. When the doctor who taught our Continuing Education class for High velocity and Blunt force trauma wounds began, the first thing he said before he began the nuts and bolts of teaching the work was that "A gunshot wound is totally preventable. We do not HAVE to have gunshot wounds. So even though you'll hear from other sources that it some gunshots are accidental and may even hold up as such in a court of law, you should treat any patient of a gunshot wound with the knowledge in the back of your mind that gunshot wounds are preventable."

None of the other doctors liked that he said such a thing, but none of them argued with its truth vs. untruth either. They simply disliked that he said it.
